As a result of urbanization, the settlements are getting larger and it is very costly and time consuming to bring the solid wastes, collected from every part of the city, to the landfill site.The concept of transfer centers has been emerged in Istanbul to reduce waste logistic costs, decrease traffic load and save time. Domestic solid wastes collected daily by district municipalities throughout Istanbul are transferred to larger vehicles at 8 solid waste transfer stations serving in various parts of the city and transported to disposal sites.
Waste transfer stations are environmental systems, which;
- Reduce traffic load.
- Reduce CO2 Emissions, noise and visual image pollution.
- Save fuel, labor and time.
- Reduce transportation costs due to being economy-friendly systems.
- Reduce need for tools and equipment for waste collection.
